What is Spravato?

Spravato is a prescription nasal spray that is FDA-approved to treat adults with treatment-resistant depression and adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) with suicidal thoughts or actions.

The prescription nasal spray contains Esketamine, which is made from the anesthetic Ketamine. ReNew Wellness also offers Ketamine infusion therapy to treat mental health conditions and chronic pain.

Only Risk Evaluation and Mitigation (REMS) certified treatment centers like ReNew Wellness administer Spravato.

As a REMS treatment center, the team provides your Spravato treatments at the office under close supervision. This helps reduce the risk of misuse and abuse of the medication.

Most insurance companies cover the cost of Spravato.

Am I a candidate for Spravato?

The team at ReNew Wellness determines if you’re a candidate for Spravato after a comprehensive evaluation. Make an appointment today to see if Spravato can help you.

The mental health clinic uses Spravato for patients with treatment-resistant depression, as well as patients with MDD symptoms that include suicidal thoughts or actions. The team only uses this nasal medication in conjunction with oral antidepressants.

You may not be a candidate for Spravato if you have aneurysmal vascular disease, a history of intracerebral hemorrhage, or sensitivity to ketamine or esketamine. It’s also not recommended for pregnant women or women who may become pregnant and people age 65 and older.

How is Spravato given?

ReNew Wellness administers Spravato at the office. Typically, the treatment schedule for Spravato is as follows:

  • Twice a week during weeks 1-4
  • Once a week during weeks 5-8
  • Once a week or once every other week from week nine and after

Because of the potential side effects, such as sedation or dissociation, you must plan to stay at the office for up to two hours following the administration of your medication. You must also arrange to have someone drive you home and take it easy the rest of the day.

How do I prepare for my Spravato appointments?

The team at ReNew Wellness gives you specific instructions on what you need to do prior to your Spravato treatments. In general, the team recommends you stop eating at least two hours before your scheduled appointment and stop drinking 30 minutes before.
