There is no single right way to receive ketamine treatment.
Some patients benefit from a more independent, inward journey. Others benefit from Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, or KAP. Some patients begin with one approach and later shift into another. The best plan is the one that supports safety, meaning, and sustainable personal growth.
A solo or independent journey may be more inward and self-directed. It may work well for patients who feel prepared, resourced, and able to journal, reflect, and connect with outside therapy or support systems after treatment.
KAP adds therapeutic relationship and structured support. It may be especially helpful for patients working with trauma, complex emotions, avoidance, dissociation, difficulty making meaning, or a need to feel witnessed and co-regulated.
A solo journey may feel more private and autonomous. KAP may feel more relational, supported, and guided. Both still require preparation, safety, aftercare, and integration.
At ReNew Wellness, KAP includes therapeutic preparation, presence, reflection, and integration. The provider support helps patients process what surfaced and translate it into daily life.
A helpful question is not “Which one is better?” but: what kind of support does my nervous system need right now?
