This post is part of Healing Insights from the Circle, a Veteran Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Group Journal from ReNew Wellness. These reflections are shared to honor the courage, vulnerability, and resilience of veterans healing together in community.

This Veteran Group KAP session carried a heavy emotional weight following the holiday weekend.

Veterans arrived burdened by fear, guilt, and the strain of deep inner work. Rather than trying to make the evening lighter, the group made space for the truth of that heaviness.

An image of Eeyore with his younger self guided the theme of compassion toward the parts that survived trauma. Veterans reflected on witnessing their lives for the first time and recognizing that discomfort and awareness can be signs of healing, not failure.

Metaphors of rafts and rivers illustrated survival strategies that once kept them alive but may no longer be needed in the same way. The group explored the possibility of honoring those strategies while slowly learning new ways to move through life.

Quiet strength was honored, especially in a veteran whose steady presence, though less vocal, brought calm and support to the group.

The evening closed with shared humanity, brotherhood, and the recognition that even when healing feels heavy, it is still unfolding.
